The conjunctiva of the eye is the lower, innermost (in the lateral ocular section) layer of the anterior part of the cavity. Normally, it is quite thin, transparent and milky-gray in color, and underneath there are blood vessels and nerve endings. The secretion it secretes moisturizes the eyeball and facilitates the movement of the eyelids. The conjunctiva also protects against the penetration of viruses and bacteria into the eye. Small lymphoid accumulations and accumulations of leukocytes (white nodules) often form in the conjunctival area.
