Conjunctivitis Professional

Occupational conjunctivitis (OC) is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, or the mucous membrane of the eyelids and eyeball, caused by external or internal factors. The conjunctiva plays an important role in protecting the eye from infections, bacteria, viruses and other irritants. When it becomes inflamed, it can have serious consequences for your eye health. In this article we will look at the causes, symptoms and treatment of this disease.

Causes

Like any other disease, PC can be caused by various reasons. Some of them include:

1. Working with chemicals or other harmful substances that may cause irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes. 2. Infections such as viral conjunctivitis caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), adenovirus, or cytomegalovirus. 3. Eye injuries such as blows, cuts or burns that cause blood vessels in the conjunctiva to bleed. 4. Allergies, which can manifest as inflammation of the conjunctiva and redness of the eyes. 5. Immune system disorders associated with certain diseases, such as diabetes or systemic lupus erythematosus. 6. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays, especially when using welding machines and working outdoors in sunny weather. 7. Injury when working with car lamps or halogen lamps in bright light. 8. Incorrect wearing of contact lenses or applying cosmetics to the eyes, which can cause inflammation of the mucous membranes and skin. 9. Long reading or working at the computer, as this causes visual fatigue, which can lead to overstrain of the eye muscles and their chronic exhaustion.

All these factors can lead to disruption of the protective function of the conjunctiva and its inflammation caused by its irritation.
