Mediastinopericarditis

Mediastinopericarditis is an inflammation of the mediastinum and pericardial sac. This is a rare disease that can occur as a complication of other diseases or injuries to the chest.

Causes of mediastinopericarditis:

  1. Spread of inflammation from the lungs, pleura, trachea and bronchi to the mediastinum and pericardium
  2. Chest injuries with damage to the mediastinal organs
  3. Complication after surgery on the heart or other chest organs
  4. Rarely - idiopathic mediastinopericarditis of unknown etiology

Symptoms:

  1. Chest pain that gets worse with breathing and changing body position
  2. Dyspnea
  3. Temperature increase
  4. Feeling of tightness in the chest
  5. Dry cough

Diagnosis is based on analysis of clinical manifestations, X-ray data, CT, and MRI of the chest.

Treatment: taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, draining the pericardium if fluid accumulates. Severe forms may require surgery.

The prognosis depends on the cause and severity of mediastinopericarditis. With timely treatment, complete recovery can occur.

Mediastinopericarditis is an inflammatory disease of the pericardium and mediastinum, which is usually caused by infectious agents. However, in some cases, mediastinoperricarditis can be caused by non-infectious factors such as an allergic reaction, autoimmune diseases or injury.
