Labyrinthitis Hematogenous

Hematogenous labyrinthitis is an inflammation of the labyrinth that occurs as a result of the spread of infection through the hematogenous route.

Causes

Hematogenous labyrinthitis usually occurs due to infectious diseases such as influenza, measles, scarlet fever, rubella, mumps and others. The causative agents of these diseases (viruses, bacteria) enter the bloodstream and are carried into the inner ear, causing inflammation of the labyrinth.

Symptoms

The main symptoms of hematogenous labyrinthitis:

  1. Dizziness, imbalance
  2. Nausea, vomiting
  3. Noise or ringing in the ears
  4. Hearing loss
  5. Increased body temperature

Diagnostics

The diagnosis of hematogenous labyrinthitis is made on the basis of complaints, examination data by an ENT doctor and audiometry results. A blood test to check for infection and an MRI of the brain may be done to rule out other conditions.

Treatment

Treatment includes:

  1. Taking antibiotics to fight infection
  2. Antiviral drugs
  3. Hormonal medications to reduce swelling and inflammation
  4. Medicines to improve cerebral circulation
  5. Vitamin therapy

With timely treatment, the prognosis for hearing is favorable.

Thus, hematogenous labyrinthitis is a serious infection of the inner ear, requiring immediate medical attention to prescribe adequate therapy.
