Laminectomy Decompressive

Laminectomy decompression is a surgical intervention in which the spinalis muscle is removed, causing compression of the spinal canal in the lower back.

According to world statistics, in 16% of all patients, signs of the disease develop within 5 years after detection of L5-S1 spondylolisthesis. In 5% of cases, recovery does not occur and severe pain syndrome, dysfunction of the lower extremities and spine, as well as dysfunction of the pelvic organs develop. These results indicate the need for early detection of the disease and correct treatment tactics.

*Indications for surgery*

The reasons why surgery is indicated for patients experiencing pain and symptoms of clinical spinal cord compression are:

- significant severity of neurological deficit; - ineffectiveness of conservative treatment;

The procedure is performed without delay when compression myelopathy occurs. Delay risks the fact that compression can lead to complete loss of sensation, motor functionality of the leg, or even the patient’s life. If these symptoms occur in the first days after fixation of the damage, a short course of radiation therapy is prescribed.
