Lamisil: an effective antifungal agent

Lamisil, also known by its international name terbinafine, is an antifungal drug manufactured by several companies, including Novartis of Switzerland and the UK, Novartis Consumer Health S.A. of Switzerland, Novartis Pharma AG of Switzerland, Novartis Pharma S.A.S of France and Sandoz Pharma Ltd of Switzerland. It belongs to the pharmacological group of antifungal agents of different groups.

Lamisil is available in different dosage forms, including tablets (250 mg and 125 mg), topical cream (1%), and topical spray (1%). The active substance of the drug is terbinafine.

The main indications for the use of Lamisil are fungal infections of the skin, nails and hair, as well as candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes. However, some people may have contraindications to its use. This includes hypersensitivity to the drug, severe hepatocellular and renal failure, blood diseases, metabolic diseases, tumors, vascular pathology of the extremities, pregnancy, breastfeeding and children under 2 years of age.

Some side effects may occur when using Lamisil. Some patients may experience a feeling of heaviness and pain in the epigastric region, impaired taste, decreased appetite, nausea, diarrhea, cholestasis, neutropenia, allergic skin reactions, burning sensation, redness of the skin and itching in the area where the cream is applied.

It is also worth paying attention to the possible interaction of Lamisil with other drugs. Histamine H-2 blockers can increase the plasma concentration of Lamisil, while terfenadine can reduce its concentration, and rifampicin increases the clearance of the drug by 2 times.

In case of an overdose of Lamisil, which is only possible when taking the drug orally, symptoms such as headache, dizziness and epigastric pain may occur. In such cases, symptomatic therapy is recommended.

During treatment with Lamisil, it is also recommended to antifungally treat shoes, socks and stockings to prevent re-infection. In addition, you should avoid getting the cream in your eyes, nose and mouth.
