Lung Vanishing

Lung atrophy and its complications. What is Vanishing Lung?

As we age, we encounter age-related changes in connective tissue. The mucous membrane of the bronchi becomes less elastic due to the loss of alveolar cells, the diameter and elasticity of the walls of the bronchi decreases, and sclerosis (pneumosclerosis) is observed. The most informative is the study of external respiration function. Characteristic are a decrease in the vital capacity of the lungs, the elasticity of the lung tissue, the Tiffno index (shows the percentage of the volume of gas entering the lungs after full exhalation during forced inhalation and exhalation) from the normal level.

Progressive and irreversible pulmonary atrophy is called “late-lung.” The symptoms that arise in this case are classified as pulmonary heart failure. In the “mild disappearing” course there are no symptoms associated with respiratory failure, signs of heart failure increase, the symptoms of which can appear without a previous lesion
