Ligament Talocalcaneal Posterior

The S-shaped ligament connects the distal calcaneus and the posterior part of the talus using the tibiofibular joints at the level of the ankle joint. In humans, the S-shaped ligaments have a complex structure - they consist of three sections. The largest part is the arch, and the other two sections are thickened heads, they are located at the inflection points at the intersection of the arch and the articular surfaces of the bone. Thus, the ligament holds the ankle joint and heel bones together. It is duplicated by the same link on the other side. It is worth noting that it is thanks to these ligaments that a person is able to walk on two legs and stand fully. Ligament location: Posterior to the plantar surface, superior or external to the tibialis posterior tendon. Clinical significance: Both ligaments can rupture, which occurs much less frequently than in cases of rupture of the anterior talonomal ligament. Symptoms of rupture include: pain during walking and intense physical exertion, swelling of soft tissues in the ankle area, deformation of the joint visible to the naked eye, increased temperature at the site of the lesion. If such changes occur, you should seek help from a medical facility.
