Lorafen

Lorafen: a benzodiazepine-derived tranquilizer from Poland

Lorafen, also known by its international name lorazepam, is a tranquilizer belonging to the group of benzodiazepine derivatives. This drug is produced in Poland by the Tarchominsky Pharmaceutical Plant SA Polfa and is an effective treatment for various mental and neurological conditions.

Lorafen is available in tablet dosage forms containing the active substance - lorazepam, in dosages of 1 mg and 2.5 mg. It is used to relieve neuroses accompanied by anxiety and excitement, as well as to relieve emotional stress and restlessness. The drug is effective in the treatment of psychoreactive states, anxiety in various depressions, schizophrenia, manic states, sleep disorders, psychosomatic disorders, status epilepticus, headaches, vomiting caused by chemotherapy, delirium tremens and other conditions.

However, before using Lorafen, some contraindications must be taken into account. The drug is not recommended for hypersensitivity to lorazepam, myasthenia gravis, angle-closure glaucoma, acute intoxication, depressive neuroses, pregnancy, breastfeeding, as well as in children under 12 years of age (in the case of tablets) and persons under 18 years of age (in the case of injections).

When using Lorafen, side effects may occur, such as dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, appetite disorders, muscle weakness, drowsiness, depression, headache, changes in blood composition and itching. Long-term use of the drug can lead to the development of drug dependence, so it is necessary to monitor the dosage and duration of treatment.

It is also important to consider possible interactions of Lorafen with other drugs. It can enhance the effect of narcotic analgesics, general and local anesthetics. Consumption of alcohol and other drugs that depress the central nervous system, as well as MAO inhibitors and some antidepressants, can increase the neurotropic activity of the drug. Interactions with scopolamine may increase sedation and induce hallucinations and illogical behavior.

In case of an overdose of Lorafen, symptoms such as drowsiness, decreased muscle tone, slow breathing, hypotension, dizziness, loss of coordination and convulsions may occur. In case of overdose, seek medical help.

It is important to note that the information provided above is based on my knowledge up to September 2021. It is recommended that you consult your healthcare professional or pharmacist for the latest information about Lorafen and its use.
