Macular dystrophy

Macular degeneration is a group of degenerative retinal diseases characterized by progressive damage to the central region of the retina (macula).

With macular degeneration, gradual degeneration of retinal cells occurs in the area of the macula (macula). This results in distortion of central vision and the appearance of a blind spot in the center of the visual field.

The main symptoms of macular degeneration:

  1. Central vision impairment

  2. Distortion of straight lines

  3. Difficulty reading and recognizing faces

  4. The need to change glasses frequently

  5. Gradual narrowing of the field of view

  6. Appearance of a blind spot in the center of the visual field

The main forms of macular degeneration include age-related macular degeneration, juvenile macular degeneration and diabetic maculopathy.

Treatment of macular degeneration is aimed at slowing the progression of the disease and improving the quality of life of patients. It is possible to use vitamin and antioxidant medications, as well as surgical treatment. It is impossible to achieve a complete cure, so prevention of macular degeneration is of great importance.
