Maximum Permissible Concentrations

Maximum permissible concentrations

Maximum permissible concentrations (MAC) are the maximum amount of a harmful substance per unit volume (air, water or other liquids) or weight (food products), which, when exposed daily for an unlimited period of time, does not cause any pathological abnormalities in the body, and also adverse hereditary changes in offspring.

When establishing MPCs, calculation methods, results of biological experiments, as well as materials from dynamic observations of the health status of persons exposed to harmful substances in various concentrations are used.

MAC levels for the same substance are not the same for different environmental objects.
