Meningitis caused by Leptospira sp.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges. Sometimes it is accompanied by meningoencephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. Leptospira pathogens enter the human body through contact with rodent carriers, and less often through consumption of milk. The disease is common among people involved in agriculture.
Manifestations of the disease Leptospira meningitis is a pronounced process of inflammation of the brain, the signs of which are fever, headache, confusion and excessive drowsiness. Fever can last up to ten days, not excluding peaks at night! In acute meningitis, these symptoms are very pronounced! Feverish days may not occur regularly, but may occur over several days. A person spends a lot of time without getting out of bed because his whole body is in pain. The head is very heavy, the person experiences hallucinations. Vomiting is one of the main signs of the disease. Some people believe that vomiting can be a warning sign of when the leptospirosis disease will begin to take its toll. Irritation of the intestinal tract often occurs with leptospirosis. Regular food becomes scarce, and the desire to eat only intensifies. Jaundice may appear - a strong icteric coloration of the skin. Changes in blood tests - leukocytosis, neutrophilia, increased ESR and CRP. Another characteristic manifestation of the disease is a rash on the skin or changes in the structure and color of the mucous membranes; this symptom occurs in less than half of patients. Skin rashes form very slowly, but are then easily removed with a blunt object. Initially, these are small bubbles with clear liquid, which merge and form tubercles or elevations. In the absence of proper treatment, meningiogenic leptospiros meningitis syndrome develops pulmonary edema. This condition can only be treated with artificial ventilation. Complications Such manifestations may occur if admitted to the hospital in the acute phase, since treatment must include certain procedures (detoxification therapy). At the time of treatment, these signs may not even exist, but after a few days or hours, they will appear sharply. The body temperature rises to 40 degrees, this condition can lead to the death of the patient. The risk of hemorrhage increases significantly. Death is possible if patients present to the clinic too late
