Mental tubercle

Good afternoon

The mental tubercle (mental bone, vanity bone or mental muscle) is a bone measuring 3x4x2 mm, which is located under the skin of the skull and the protrusion of the petrous bone, visible from the side of the masticatory muscles, at the entrance to the oral cavity inside its bottom.

It plays an important role in maintaining the structure of the face.

The peculiarity of this bone is that when it tenses, it is compared to the anterior oblique muscles.

The chin bone is located between the canines of the upper jaw and the molars. It is located on the outside of the chin. To see it you need to open your mouth and stretch the skin on your cheeks. A small tumor under the skin, protruding just below the level of the teeth, is the chin bone. In its structure, the chin bone resembles a jaw, namely a canine. Just like a fang, it is located between the gums, in the depths of the oral cavity. This way it protects the teeth. It is located near the base of the tongue, hence the name. Next to this tubercle near the oral cavity is the lingual tonsil.
