Women are happy to borrow cosmetics from children's care lines because they are truly safe and suitable for even the most sensitive skin. This is how moms discovered micellar water and quickly found a place for it on their dressing tables. Manufacturers got their bearings in time and included an innovative product in their range of skincare cosmetics. Now in stores you can find micellar solutions for washing and removing makeup for any skin type. And the best of these funds are included in our rating.
Which brand of micellar water should I choose?
All cosmetic giants today produce micellar (or dispersion) solutions. The most popular brands can afford to bring good products to the market at a very reasonable price. These include:
We were able to find cheaper analogues in the assortment of the companies Ziaja (Poland) and Family Doctor (Ukraine).
There are other well-known manufacturers, but they are more focused on producing medicinal and caring cosmetics. Their products cause the least complaints, but they are not cheap.
If you don’t mind spending any money in pursuit of beauty and healthy skin, we recommend paying attention to the following brands:
7. La Roche-Posay
The products of these brands should be chosen by people with serious dermatological problems that cannot be solved by ordinary cosmetic solutions.
The best micellar water for cleansing
The simplest and most “gentle” type of micellar can be used even to care for very sensitive skin. These formulas provide gentle cleansing and do not contain aggressive substances. Even tight-fisted Europeans specifically buy micellar solutions for washing their face in order to spend less on regular water. After all, to effectively clean your face, you don’t need to splash around under the tap - just wipe your face with a cotton pad soaked in a dispersion product. It’s also convenient to take this water with you to work or on the road. The main advantage of such compositions is that they really do not need to be washed off.
Garnier Skin Naturals
The most popular water that is suitable for all skin types. It has regenerating properties, restores youth and freshness to the face. Sold in bottles of 200 and 400 ml.
Pros:
- Mattifies oily skin and T-zone;
- Suitable even for sensitive dermis;
- Capable of removing waterproof makeup;
- Does not sting the eyes;
- Does not leave a film and does not clog pores;
- Without smell;
- Convenient dispenser and strong bottle;
- Low cost.
Minuses:
- To remove makeup, you will have to make more than one pass with a cotton swab over the skin;
- It dries out a little, so subsequent moisturizing will not be superfluous.
Customers especially praise this product for its good quality at an affordable price. Many switched from more expensive micellar products to Garnier after the first trials. Our women also found several non-standard ways to use dispersion water: washing away traces of tape and stickers from things, cleaning leather bags and cosmetic bags, and smooth insoles of summer shoes. In general, they really use it as a universal cleanser.
La Roche-Posay Physiological
A French thermal water solution for sensitive skin solves several problems at once: cleanses the face, restores the protective and physiological functions of the skin. When using it, the manufacturer promises better absorption of moisturizing and caring cosmetics, as well as a calming and relaxing effect. Dispersed water of this brand is manufactured in France and Germany and is sold in bottles of different sizes: 200, 400 and 750 ml.
Pros:
- Suitable for people with sensitive skin;
- Copes with removing cosmetics, even very persistent ones;
- Nice smell;
- Does not irritate the eyes;
- There is no feeling of tightness on the face;
- It feels like the skin is breathing.
Minuses:
- Inconvenient dispenser - water flows reluctantly;
- It is supplied in unsealed packaging, so it is better to buy in trusted stores.
Women especially note the feeling of smooth skin after cleansing their face with La Roche-Posay micellar solution, however, contrary to the manufacturer’s advice, they still recommend washing it off their face.
Family Doctor
The formula of this water is enriched with milk and silk proteins, tea (red and rooibos), and contains D-panthenol, which accelerates the regeneration of skin cells. It also contains the Sum Calmin complex to combat inflammation and irritation on the face. The micellar solution is suitable for any skin type and is sold in 265 and 500 ml bottles.
Pros:
- Hypoallergenic composition;
- Does not dry the skin;
- Economical consumption if you do not try to wipe off cosmetics;
- The bottle cap is easy to open (in a bag too, so be careful);
- Low price.
Minuses:
- The smell may seem harsh to some;
- Not suitable for makeup removal - cleansing only.
Like many similar products, this micellar solution has its fans and those for whom water was not suitable. But she has much more positive reviews.
Best micellar water for makeup removal
These products already include glycol components and surfactants, which provide better cleaning. Although such micellar water effectively removes waterproof makeup from the skin, it requires mandatory rinsing - no matter what the advertisers promise.
Uriage Thermal Micellar Water Normal to Dry Skin
Designed to cleanse and remove makeup from normal to dry skin. The solution contains glycerin, which retains moisture in the epidermal cells, so after micellar treatment there is no feeling of tightness on the face. It is made from natural thermal water with the addition of softening and depigmenting cranberry extract. You can distinguish this solution from other products in the line by the blue cap on the bottle. The volume of the bottle is 250 ml.
Pros:
- Gentle cleansing;
- Removes makeup in one pass;
- Pleasant, subtle floral scent;
- Relieves skin irritation;
- There is no feeling of sticky film;
- Does not sting the eyes;
- It tones well.
Minuses:
If your facial skin is prone to redness and rosacea, it is better to choose Uriage water with a red cap. It contains apricot oil, which removes inflammation and prevents skin flaking. For oily and combination skin, in the same line there is a mattifying solution - in a bottle with a green cap.
Vichy Cleansing Sensitive Skin
The 3-in-1 product is more focused on removing eye makeup and use on sensitive skin. Soothes inflamed areas and relieves irritation while gently cleansing the face. Like the previous solution, it is prepared using thermal water, but is enriched with Gallic rose extract, whose phytophenols provide an additional softening effect. Sold in 200 ml bottles, but there are also 30 ml samples.
Pros:
- Does not contain alcohols;
- Gently removes makeup in one pass with a sponge;
- Does not leave a shiny film;
- Slowly consumed;
- Can be used even by those who wear contact lenses.
Minuses:
- Doesn't work with waterproof mascara;
- Despite the miraculous composition, it requires rinsing off - you can’t leave it on the skin.
Avène Micellar Lotion Cleanser and Make-Up Remover
This water is suitable for all women, although it was initially positioned by the manufacturer as a product for particularly sensitive and redness-prone skin. The dispersion solution is prepared based on thermal spring water and has not only a cleansing and moisturizing effect, but also softens the dermis. The product is sold in 400 ml bottles (less often - 200 ml).
Pros:
- Relieves irritation and soothes the skin;
- Can be used to remove eye makeup;
- Hypoallergenic composition;
- Does not clog pores;
- Moisturizes dry skin while relieving irritation;
- It removes even greasy eyeliner well.
Minuses:
- There is a sticky feeling on the skin - it needs to be washed off;
- The smell, although pleasant, is too pronounced.
Best micellar water for dry skin
Almost no different from micellar wash or makeup remover, but its formula necessarily includes additional moisturizing and water-retaining components. At the same time, alcohols and aggressive preservatives are removed from such formulations.
Bioderma Crealine H2O
The most popular and best-selling dispersion solution is suitable for dry and normal skin. It carefully cleanses it without destroying the protective lipid film on the face. Available in bottles of 100, 250 and 500 ml.
Pros:
- Fast and effective cleansing;
- It is not felt on the face, although there is a feeling of slippery skin when washed off;
- No alcohol in the composition;
- Very light neutral aroma;
- Does not cause allergies or irritation;
- Suitable for removing makeup from eyelids;
- Economical consumption.
Minuses:
- Unreliable lid - breaks quickly.
L’Oreal “Absolute tenderness”
A gentle solution that is suitable for removing make-up from any part of the face. The product completely replaces tonic and milk, copes well with the main problems of dry skin, but it has a very complex and multi-component composition, which is scary at first.
Pros:
- Removes makeup in one or two movements;
- Does not contain fragrances or alcohol;
- Hypoallergenic composition;
- Has a softening and soothing effect on the skin;
- Does not sting the eyes;
- Convenient compact bottle;
- The lid opens easily, although it fits tightly;
- Reasonable price.
Minuses:
- Doesn't work well with waterproof cosmetics;
- The hole in the lid is too big - a lot of liquid pours out at once.
Customers believe that the name “Absolute Tenderness” suits this water perfectly. However, there are some reviews where women say that L'Oreal micellar did not suit them.
Ziaja Natural olive
The water is sold in cute 200 ml bottles and is positioned specifically as a cleansing and caring product. Contains olive oil and glycerin, which are responsible for moisturizing dry and normal skin, while leaving the face feeling fresh.
Pros:
- Tones the skin and makes it pleasantly velvety to the touch;
- Well softens and moisturizes;
- Unobtrusive aroma;
- Convenient dispenser;
- Low price.
Minuses:
- Not suitable for removing makeup on sensitive eyes;
- Used up quickly.
Some customers note that the Ziaja dispersion solution foams when used, so it is not advisable to leave it on the face - it is better to wash it off. Negative reviews are mainly due to the fact that the product has a narrowly targeted action. Those who expected more from it than gentle cleansing and care for dry skin were disappointed.
Best micellar water for oily skin
Initially, micellar formulations were not intended to care for shiny facial skin with wide pores, or at least required rinsing, since they left behind a shiny film. Today, dispersion solutions have appeared that are free of these disadvantages.
Bioderma Sebium H2O
An excellent choice for oily and inflammation-prone skin. The principle of action of this product is interesting - Sebium does not dry out the face, but only regulates the secretions of the sebaceous glands. In addition, water has bactericidal and soothing properties, reducing the appearance of acne. Sold in bottles of 100 and 250 ml.
Pros:
- Soothes inflamed skin;
- Virtually odorless;
- In terms of the degree of purification - one of the most effective;
- Does not give a feeling of dryness on the face;
- Can be used for skin diseases.
Minuses:
- Cannot be used for eye make-up removal;
- High price.
Garnier “Clean Skin”
A fairly popular and widespread product from a well-known brand has already been tried by many owners of oily and combination skin. First of all, they were attracted by the volume of the bottle - 400 ml, but after opening the solution must be used within 6 months.
Pros:
- Slight matting effect;
- Pore cleansing;
- Without smell;
- Moisturizes – there is no feeling of tightness on the face after use;
- Does not contain parabens or fragrances;
- Copes well with makeup removal;
- Low cost.
Minuses:
- Stings the eyes;
- Contains alcohol, although this is not critical for healthy oily skin;
- The lid is not tamper proof.

Today about L’Oreal micellar water for dry and sensitive skin:
It's always a little easier to evaluate a product when you have something to compare it with. And there is something to compare with and in sufficient quantity.
First, a few words directly about Loreal micellar water. Enlarged bottle with a volume of 400 ml. The contents are colorless and odorless. Foams when shaken. The manufacturer promises gentle skin cleansing. Does not require rinsing with water. Can be used on the skin around the eyes. Contains glycerin.
Now, what's the fact? As I wrote earlier, I used Garnier (different types) for a long time. You can see in detail here, here and here. The idea to abandon it came for 2 reasons. The first is that it seriously dries out my skin (and I still have oily skin) and the second is a negative article that I came across. And although there is no evidence of the authenticity of what was written, the desire to experiment has disappeared.
Then I tried Bioderma. A good option, the only thing that bothered me was the price. Actually, after this, I was advised to L’Oreal as a possible alternative.
Does it dry out your skin? Unfortunately yes. As indeed they all are to one degree or another. Bioderma is the least drying. L'Oreal comes in second place. As for removing makeup. If the makeup is long-lasting with professional or long-lasting luxury cosmetics, you will still need additional products. As for removing eye makeup, I would not recommend doing this at all.
Bottom line, the option is good in terms of price/quality ratio. But I won’t take it a second time. Because dealing with the resulting dryness is not a pleasant task. In general, I’ve been wanting to move away from micellar water lately for this reason. The only thing that stops me is the need to remove makeup from my face without touching my eyes. In this case, you won’t be able to wash your face. Can someone recommend something?

Useful properties and advantages
Micellar water works gently, but at the same time conscientiously. To cleanse your skin, you don’t need to rub your face long and hard.
