Muscle, Perineum Transverse Deep (M. Transversus Perinei Profundus, Pna, Bna, Jna)

Muscle, deep transverse perineum (M. Transversus Perinei Profundus, Pna, Bna, Jna)

The transverse deep perineal muscle (lat. m. transversus perinei profundus, pna, bna, jna) is a paired skeletal muscle of the pelvic floor.

It arises from the ischial spine and attaches to the symphysis pubis. The function of the muscle is to stretch the central part of the pelvic diaphragm and close the posterior part of the urogenital fissure.

The muscle covers the perineum outside the anal sphincter and together with it forms the muscular layer of the pelvic diaphragm. The transverse deep perineal muscle is involved in maintaining the pelvic organs.
