Myohemoglobinuria (Myohaemoglobinurid), Myoglobinuria (Myoglobinurid)

Myohemoglobinuria (Myohaemoglobinurid), Myoglobinuria (Myoglobinurid) - the presence of myogsmoglobin pigment in the urine.

Myohemoglobinuria is a condition in which the pigment myoglobin from damaged muscle cells is present in the urine. This occurs when skeletal muscles are destroyed, for example, due to injuries, heart attacks, intoxications and some hereditary diseases.

With myoglobinuria, urine acquires a dark brown, almost black color, reminiscent of the color of strongly brewed tea or coffee. This is due to the high concentration of myoglobin, which has strong chromogenic properties.

The diagnosis of myoglobinuria is made based on a characteristic change in the color of urine in combination with increased levels of creatine kinase and myoglobin in blood tests. Differential diagnosis is made with hematuria and porphyria to exclude other causes of urine pigmentation.

Treatment for myoglobinuria is aimed at eliminating the underlying disease or injury that caused the destruction of muscle tissue. Adequate fluid intake and alkaline diuresis are important to prevent acute kidney injury. The prognosis depends on the severity and timeliness of treatment of the underlying disease.
