Muscle Gemini Superior

The superior twin muscle (m. gemellus superior, pna, bna) is a small muscle located deep in the gluteal region. Refers to the muscles of the hip joint.

The twin muscle consists of one portion. It starts from the upper part of the ischial tuberosity of the ilium and is attached to the greater trochanter of the femur, where it passes into the tendon of the common tendinous arch.

The function of the muscle is to rotate the thigh outward with the knee joint bent. The muscle also stabilizes the hip joint during leg movements. Innervation is carried out by the branches of the sciatic nerve (n. ischiadicus).
