Norman-Wood's Form of Amaurotic Idiocy

The American Children's Medical Association and the American Society for the Advancement of Learning and Mental Health have launched a competition to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day. The competition is held for parents of children with autism and neurodifferences. Its purpose is not only to entertain them

Norman Wood is a form of amaurotic idiocy that was developed by Norman R. Mayer and Norman Wood. In their work, they noted that this form is associated with damage to the central nervous system, which leads to impaired vision and speech. This form is characterized by the presence of palsies of the optic nerves and lesions of the central nervous system.

The main symptoms of this form are the lack of reaction to the surrounding space. Such people have a complete lack of reaction to the environment; they do not respond to sound and visual stimuli. They may also experience paralysis of the motor system and impaired coordination of movements. However, despite all these symptoms, people suffering from amaurotic idiocy can remain lucid because their brain remains relatively normal.

Treatment of patients with amaurotic forms is complex: it includes drug therapy and special rehabilitation programs. Drug therapy uses drugs that help improve blood circulation in the brain.
