**Linear cataract knife** is a surgical instrument for removing pathologically altered parts of the lens. It is a long and narrow metal plate with a sharp edge. Used as an aid for cystotomy
Lens bodies are often attached to the surface of the left ventricle, accompanying cataracts. Surgical treatment, which may be necessary for such manifestations, usually consists of removing the lens bodies using special instruments - a linear cataract knife. This device is a long metal plate, sharp along the edge. The cataract instrument has a fairly wide purpose, as it is used not only as a kind of knife to remove tissue from the eyeball, but can also be used to change the shape or the very location of the cornea. This operation is performed when dystrophic changes or subluxations of the root or the optic nerve head itself occur. The knife has a certain weight, which is about 40 g, and it is usually made using medical grade steel with a high degree of corrosion resistance. One of the easiest ways to make a tool of this type is to use rail steel, and sometimes doctors prefer to use E-35 steel. Cataract knives can have different designs and sizes. These objects differ from each other in the length, width and shape of the blade. In some cases the length is about six centimeters, while in others options up to 20 centimeters are possible. More accurate dimensions of the cataract instrument can be seen in the photos, which are posted in many medical books. The length of the blade can be determined using a ruler, and the width using a caliper.
