On various conditions arising at the walls of the stomach and false ribs

Twitching sometimes occurs in these areas due to the presence of juices there. Often these juices are malignant and the harm from them reaches the brain; from this, as we said, melancholy and epilepsy arise. Such twitching sometimes occurs near the mouth of the stomach or in it itself and they are similar to heart failure. Often, constant bloating and heaviness occur in the area of the stomach walls, indicating the presence of matter; sometimes this indicates the presence of internal tumors. If the patient feels that the walls of the stomach and hypochondrium are being pulled upward, this sometimes indicates impending vomiting. In acute fevers, this often serves as a sign that a headache, nosebleeds or vomiting are rising, as we will say in detail in our place, or indicates an upward movement of matter. When the tension is directed downwards and towards the navel area, this indicates a non-movement of matter downwards and an upcoming relaxation, which is also confirmed by pain in the intestines.

The upward tension of the false ribs is one of the phenomena that often occurs during pestilence fevers. It is sometimes caused by dryness that occurs in the stomach due to heat or cold, and sometimes it is observed with internal tumors, even if the tumors form in the lower parts of the abdomen; As for the tumors in its upper parts, they also pull the false ribs upward, because they simultaneously dry out and produce pressure. Such swelling in hot illnesses is malignant and accompanies hepatic jaundice. Sometimes in these organs, that is, in the walls of the abdomen and in the false ribs, burning pains and nagging pains appear due to liver diseases, spleen diseases and muscle diseases, as well as during fevers and crises.
