If you can handle a needle, consider sewing different scraps into a keepsake blanket. Save scraps of fabric from your favorite things—the shirt your son was wearing when he got his first tooth, a baby blanket, or a favorite robe. When your child grows up, keep scraps of school uniform as a souvenir.
Use this to make a keepsake quilt by sewing scraps onto a large piece of fabric. The child can use colored crayons to draw the material for the blanket into squares. After this, iron the design with a hot iron through paraffin-soaked paper. Now you have a fabric on which to leave a mark of memorable events.
Also, when traveling with your family, try to bring home souvenirs or jewelry from each trip that you can add to your family collection.
