Ophthalmia (otitis media) is a contagious inflammation of the tissue of the eyelids; one of the types of purulent conjunctivitis, especially common among young children. Ophthalmia is accompanied by a significant decrease in vision, photophobia, pain in the eyes, and mucous discharge from the eyes. According to the clinical picture, ophthalmomia should be distinguished from blepharitis, conjunctivitis and pericorneal inflammatory reaction of the cornea.
