Ointment

**Ointment** is a dosage form intended for application to the skin, wounds or mucous membranes. It is a thick mass consisting of active and/or formative substances in the form of a solution or suspension with pharmacological activity, enclosed in a base. The base can be soft (petroleum jelly, lanolin, methylcellulose) or hard (animal fats, synthetic fats or waxes). Topical ointments are often applied to gauze pads. In rare cases, the ointment may be based on water (liquid ointment).

Composition of the ointment

In accordance with the State Register of Medicines:

Active ingredient(s): - anti-inflammatory drugs; - antibacterial agents; - antimycotic agents; - stimulating
