Olfactory Nerve Syndrome

**Olfactory Nerve Syndrome** is a collective concept that unites clinical conditions that arise as a result of damage to the olfactory system. The olfactory nerve transmits signals from the olfactory receptors in the brain to recognize odors. These conditions occur when the sensitivity of both the olfactory nerve itself and the olfactory bulbs (part of the brain) is damaged or decreased, as well as either a decrease in the number or destruction of nerve cells that transmit odors from the receptors to the brain.
