Hypervolemic oligocythemia is a pathological condition characterized by a decrease in the number of red blood cells in the blood against the background of an excess volume of circulating plasma.
Reasons for development:
-
Blood loss followed by replenishment of plasma volume. In this case, dilution of red blood cells occurs due to the rapid restoration of plasma volume compared to the restoration of red blood cells.
-
Excessive administration of plasma replacement solutions, colloids or crystalloids.
-
Overhydration.
Clinical manifestations:
-
Decreased concentration of hemoglobin and red blood cells in the blood.
-
Decreased hematocrit.
-
Normal or increased volume of circulating blood.
-
No signs of hypovolemia.
Diagnosis is based on the detection of a reduced number of red blood cells against a background of normal or increased plasma volume.
Treatment consists of eliminating the cause of the development of oligocythemia and normalizing the volume of circulating blood. Blood transfusion may be required.
