Omeprol

Omeprol: an effective antiulcer agent

Omeprol, also known by its international name omeprazole, is an antiulcer drug produced in Yugoslavia by the company Zdravlje. It belongs to the pharmacological group of antiulcer drugs and is widely used to treat various gastrointestinal diseases.

Omeprol is presented in the dosage form of capsules containing 20 mg of the active substance - omeprazole. It is effectively used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute phase, gastroesophageal reflux disease, including cases where it is not amenable to treatment with H2-antihistamines. Omeprol is also used for reflux esophagitis, including erosive and ulcerative, pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, polyendocrine adenomatosis, systemic mastocytosis, stress ulcers (including prevention), peptic ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract caused by Helicobacter pylori, non-ulcer dyspepsia and other conditions.

Omeprole is a potent proton pump inhibitor, which means it reduces the production of stomach acid by inhibiting the activity of the proton pump in the parietal cells of the stomach. This helps heal ulcers and reduce symptoms associated with excess acidity.

Like any medicine, omeprol has contraindications and side effects. It is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the drug, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Among the side effects associated with the use of omeprol, the following may be observed: dry mouth, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, changes in taste sensitivity, stomatitis, gastrointestinal candidiasis, polyposis of the fundus of the stomach, atrophic gastritis, increased activity of liver enzymes. From the nervous system and sensory organs, headache, malaise, asthenia, dizziness, sleep disturbance, drowsiness, paresthesia, as well as restlessness, agitation, anxiety, depression, reversible mental disorders, hallucinations, and visual impairment may occur. In some cases, arrhythmias may occur. Taking omeprol should be under the supervision of a physician, who will determine the dosage and duration of treatment depending on the specific situation and characteristics of the patient. Self-medication or changing the dosage without consulting a doctor is not recommended.
