Opposition (from Latin oppositio - opposite) - the location of something on one line, but at some distance from another line or point.
In anatomy, opposition is the opposition of the thumb in relation to the other fingers of the hand. The opposition of the thumb, which is opposed to all the others, is called thumb opposition.
Oppositions in anatomy are found in different parts of the body, such as the spine, bones, muscles and tendons. They help maintain balance and coordination of movements. In medicine, oppositions are used to diagnose and treat various diseases.
