Orthostatic syndrome

Orthostatic syndrome (SO, from the English “orthostatic”) is a pathological condition in which the functional balance of the human body is disrupted. If the balance is disturbed, physiological and psychological problems arise.

Symptoms of the syndrome occur after changes in body position (ortho). The most common causes of this condition are the following: * prolonged standing or sitting * changes in barometric pressure ( for example, due to air travel) * excessive consumption of caffeinated drinks * alcohol consumption and smoking * lack of oxygen * aging * taking certain groups of medications * other chronic diseases. At the first manifestations of OM, it is recommended to make an appointment with a specialist who will help you select therapy and minimize the risk of complications. Otherwise, dizziness, loss of consciousness, disorientation, fainting, as well as acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA) are possible.

It is important to remember that with age the risk of the syndrome increases, and the older the person, the more often the development of various abnormalities in the functioning of the central nervous system is noted. Orthostatic maladjustment syndrome affects people with chronic pathologies, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, cerebral atherosclerosis, varicose veins of the lower extremities, etc.

To diagnose OM, it is necessary to conduct the following studies: 1. Complete blood count 2. Express analysis for determining glucose levels 3. If necessary, conduct an examination on a Holter ECG monitor (in this case, you must not limit physical activity and be extremely careful). 4. The doctor may also refer the patient for a computed tomography scan of the brain and cervical spine. It is necessary to consult a doctor who will examine the patient and prescribe appropriate treatment. Treatment is aimed at improving blood circulation in the brain, increasing cardiovascular endurance, and reducing the severity of OM symptoms. Among the main methods of therapy, the following should be highlighted: * moderate physical activity * proper nutrition * reducing stress * regular walks in the fresh air

In conclusion, I would like to note that orthostatic insufficiency syndrome is not an independent disease, but only a symptom of a general malaise. The manifestation of any changes should be monitored by qualified specialists.
