Parostosis

Parostotic osteodystrophy (parostosis) is a chronic progressive disease of the skeletal system that develops as a result of impaired nutrition of bone tissue and impaired metabolism of minerals in the bones. A feature of this disease is the slow development of the process with a gradual increase in the area of bone tissue damage with the subsequent formation of fibro-edematous deformities

Parostotic osteopathy usually occurs in elderly patients. Usually the large bones of the extremities are affected (femur, tibia and humerus, ulna, patella), less often small bones of the hands and feet. The most common sites of injury are the forearms, thighs, legs and feet. First of all, the process involves the tibia, femur, tibia and condylar parts of the bones, rarely the patella. The location of the lesion and its nature depend on the type and duration of the underlying disease
