Tapping is the transmission of abrupt signals using a percussive sound or ringing on metal. In the same sense, this word is also used in music, where it generally means the transmission of a jerky rhythmic sound (as opposed to smoothness) by any means: from “swinging” the beater in the forehead with the strings touching, as in a tambourine, to complex sound effects in keyboard orchestras and “flying” zither and guitar playing.
