Aortic isthmus

The aortic isthmus is an anatomical formation that connects the ascending and descending aorta. Located between the base of the chest and the diaphragm. The part of the human body that is surrounded by the aortic isthmus: superior vena cava, abdominal lymphatic duct. When examining the aortic isthmus itself, the aortic arches, their boundaries and anatomy are clearly visible. It can be noted that the pulmonary artery on the inner side of the arch is covered by the wall of the descending aorta, thus minimizing the likelihood of its incorrect puncture during diagnostic procedures. Blood from the basin of the left ventricle of the heart to the peripheral parts enters through the mouths of the brachiocephalic arteries, branching from the inferior aorta behind the projection of the scapula and is sent through the posterior intercostal artery to the vessels of the organs.
