Perianal Scraper

Perianal scrapings are the most common method of diagnosing early stages of colon and anal cancer. Perianal scraping is usually a routine test during a physical examination to identify suspicious areas of tissue.

A perianal scraping is a test done by taking a small amount of tissue from the area around the anus and perineum. This process can be somewhat unpleasant, but is necessary for medical diagnosis.

The process of perianal scraping begins with an examination and identification of areas where abnormal tissue might be present. At this point, the doctor may apply a small amount of local anesthetic to reduce pain. After this, the doctor places a special gauze brush in the anus, which is then used to collect tissue samples. The dismounting process takes only a few seconds and usually does not cause pain.
