Periodontitis Ossifying

Ossificant periodontitis, or osteoperiodion with ossification (Greek os, osis - bone, periodon - periosteal tissue), hypertrophic periodontitis is a type of periodontitis characterized by the occurrence of bone growths in the peri-apical tissues of the tooth. This inflammatory process is rare and is a fairly serious complication of periodontal inflammation.

The main provoking factor that causes the destruction of periodontal tissue is infection. Those bacteria that cause inflammation in the mouth can cause illness. During the inflammatory process, the growth of mineralized tooth structures is stimulated and their destruction occurs. After some time, new cells replace the destroyed tissue.
