Pirogov Vest Bandage

The Pirogov (or vest) bandage was developed by Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov, a 19th-century Russian physician and surgeon. The Pirogov bandage is used to provide first aid for open wounds or soft tissue damage. A vest bandage is a method of ligating the chest to preserve life or stop bleeding from the chest.

The bandage is named after Pirogov, who was the main consultant to military doctors of the Russian Empire in the Caucasian War. He developed a number of surgical procedures used for wounds of soldiers and officers, and in particular described the technique of using a vest during the Crimean War. In his experience, such bandages gave quick results: help was provided to soldiers who were in serious condition within an hour after defeat in battle. It is noteworthy that this procedure was not highly complex and did not require medical knowledge of the highest level. The modern vest bandage is used by doctors all over the world, and its technique is well developed. Tubes can be installed using this procedure
