Piscidian Tree

Legumes - Fabaceae (Leguminosae). Pharmacy name: Piscidiae root bark - Piscidiae radicis cortex (formerly: Cortex Piscidiae radicis).

Botanical description. A slender, large tree with gray bark and flowers typical of legumes. Grows in the forests of tropical America.

Active ingredients: saponins (including piscidin), glycosides, tannins.

Application. Sometimes used as part of soothing and sleeping teas. In America it is used as a sleeping pill.
