Lyme disease is caused by the bite of an infected tick. Of course, this is a tiny tick that is very difficult to see.
An ixodid tick bite can cause a disease called encephalitis.
If you find a tick, remove it with tweezers; if you don't have tweezers, use rubber gloves, cellophane or paper to protect your fingers. After removing the tick, wash your hands. Do not try to burn the tick out of your skin, do not apply gasoline or nail polish, or try to puncture it with a needle. If you cannot remove the tick or its jaws remain embedded in the skin, consult a doctor.
After removing the tick from your skin, wash the affected area with soap and water. To prevent infection, use an antiseptic or antibiotic ointment only after consulting your doctor. If you notice a rash or develop an illness, consult your doctor.
