Bud Galette-shaped

A biscuit-shaped kidney is a developmental anomaly in which both kidneys are fused with their medial edges along their entire length.

With this pathology, two kidneys grow together along the midline and form a single structure resembling a biscuit or bagel in shape. Hence the name of this anomaly - “biscuit-shaped kidney”.

Fusion of the kidneys occurs at the stage of embryonic development. Normally, the kidneys are laid separately in the sacral region, and then gradually rise up to the lumbar region. With a biscuit-shaped kidney, this process is disrupted, and the organs remain fused throughout.

As a rule, a biscuit-shaped kidney is combined with other malformations of the urinary system. Duplication of the ureters, pelvis and pyelocaliceal segments is often observed. The function of such a kidney may be impaired due to pathological changes in the structure of the parenchyma and the presence of obstruction in the excretory tract.

Therefore, the biscuit-shaped kidney is a serious congenital anomaly that requires careful examination and, in some cases, surgical correction. Timely detection and treatment of this defect is of fundamental importance for preserving kidney function and the patient’s health.

GALET-SHAPED KIDNEY - DEVELOPMENTAL ANOMALITY: FUNCTION OF BOTH KIDNEYS BY THE MEDIAL EDGES OVER THE ENTIRE LENGTH

The kidney is an internal secretion and excretory organ located in the lumbar region of the body and located between the upper pole of the right kidney and the lower pole of the left kidney. The kidney is bean-shaped and located inside the renal pelvis. Between the right and left kidneys there is a narrow gap called the renal groove (sinus renalis). This groove is almost smooth and is transversely extended into it along the surface of the two lateral surfaces of the kidneys. There are large and small buds. In this section, we will consider the concept of “renal kidney”, as well as the possible consequences of such anomalies as fusion of the kidneys with the medial ends.

Let’s look at the definition of “kidney bud.” According to the classification of childhood pathologies, galette-shaped kidney (gale-shaped) is an abnormal fusion of medial branches (edges) throughout the entire renal segment in
