Podbugornaya Region

The subcutaneous region (lat. regio subthalamica) is a part of the diencephalon located under the visual thalamus.

The subtubercular region includes several important nuclei:

  1. Subthalamic nucleus - participates in the regulation of motor activity.

  2. Substantia nigra - contains dopaminergic neurons involved in the regulation of movements.

  3. The red nucleus is a relay center for motor signals from the cerebellum to the cerebral cortex.

The subcutaneous region plays a key role in controlling voluntary movements and maintaining muscle tone. Lesions in this area can cause various movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease.
