Polypos

Polyposis are benign growths of the mucous membrane and appear in the form of single and multiple focal growths of the mucous membrane on a stalk, protruding into the lumen of a hollow organ. The term “polyp” is more often used in the practice of gastroenterologists and coloproctologists, while the term “polyposis” is used in gastroenterology and refers to an autosomal dominant disease with a hereditary transmission mechanism, often transmitted within the family. At its core, polyposis disease is a chronic, recurrent hyperproliferative (proliferative, abnormal cell division) disease of the colon.
