Pharyngotomy Transverse-Lateral

**Pharyngotomy transverse-lateral** is an operation in which part of the lateral wall of the pharynx is removed along with part of the lateral wall of the larynx and the adjacent soft tissues of the thyroid gland and esophagus. Thus, the purpose of the operation is to expand the lumen of the entrance to the larynx. Pharyngotomy is used for various painful processes of the larynx; sometimes it may be the only method of treating a disease.

This operation is prescribed not only to people. It is also performed by veterinarians when treating sick animals. If there is a need to make breathing easier for the patient, an allergist will also perform a pharyngotomy. Without this procedure, sick people in cases of severe allergies may be prescribed inhalers, which does not always have a good effect on the patient’s health.
