Privent: an effective antiallergic drug from India

Privent (international name Ketotifen) is an antiallergic drug produced by the Indian pharmaceutical company Micro Labs Ltd. It belongs to a group of drugs intended for the prevention and treatment of various allergic diseases.

Privent is effective in preventing attacks of bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis, hay fever and other allergic reactions. It is also used for the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis and migraine.

The main active ingredient of Privent is ketotifen fumarate. It is available in the form of 1 mg tablets. The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components, during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in children under 3 years of age (for tablets) and up to 6 months (for syrup).

Some side effects may occur when using Privent. It can cause sedation, decreased reactivity, fatigue, dizziness, headache, and drowsiness. Children may experience restlessness, sleep disturbances, and nervousness. From the gastrointestinal tract, dry mouth, increased appetite, nausea, vomiting, gastralgia and constipation may occur. Allergic skin reactions and weight gain may also occur.

Privent may interact with other sedatives, hypnotics and antihistamines, as well as ethanol. Oral antidiabetic drugs may increase the risk of thrombocytopenia.

In case of an overdose of Privent, drowsiness, confusion, disorientation, changes in heart rate, hypotension, shortness of breath, increased excitability and in some cases coma may occur. Treatment of overdose includes gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and saline laxatives.

Before using Privent, you should pay attention to some features. It is not intended to relieve attacks of bronchial asthma and should only be used as a preventive measure. When using it, vehicle drivers and people working with increased concentration should be careful. Discontinuation of treatment with Privent should be carried out gradually, reducing the dosage under the supervision of a physician.
