Птоз (Ptosis)

Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid that can develop for various reasons. One of them is damage to the third cranial nerve (oculomotor nerve). In this case, ptosis is usually accompanied by paralysis of the muscles of the eyeball, which causes double vision in the eye and dilation of the pupil.

If ptosis is one of the manifestations of Horner's syndrome, it is usually accompanied by constriction of the pupil of the eye and lack of sweating on the affected side of the face.

Ptosis can also develop if the patient has severe pseudoparalytic myasthenia gravis, which is accompanied by increased fatigue and a characteristic feeling of weakness.

In addition, ptosis can be an isolated congenital defect or develop as a result of damage to the muscles of the eyeball. In this case, it is accompanied by weakness or complete absence of eye movements.

Ptosis is drooping of the upper eyelid. In some cases, this can cause double vision and dilated pupils. Ptosis may also be associated with Horner's syndrome, which is accompanied by constricted pupils and lack of sweating. Ptosis can be caused by a variety of causes, including myasthenia gravis, birth defects, and damage to the muscles of the eyeball. In any case, treatment for ptosis should be aimed at eliminating the cause and restoring normal eye function.

Ptosis, or drooping of the upper eyelid. Causes: damage to the third cranial nerve (Ophthalmic).

There can be all types of damage to the extraocular muscles: trauma, hemorrhage, tumors, muscle vascular thrombosis, or muscle paralysis after syncope or stroke. Oculomotor nerve palsy manifests with varying degrees of ptosis on one side. With more severe paralysis, a curvature of the palpebral fissure occurs towards the paralyzed muscles. If paralysis is combined with peripheral facial paralysis, the corner of the mouth drops and the lower jaw is forced into position (lowered). If the lesion is localized in the lower part of the nerve trunk, myokymia of the eyelid and lower part of the face appears with a permanent crooked smile. The symptoms disappear if you moisten the eyelids with oil, since in this case the corneal layer of the cornea is irritated, dilating the pupils and inhibiting the impulse to the muscles.
