When I ran out of this cream, I began to miss it, and even when it was just coming to an end, I was already bored and didn’t want to part with it, and this happens to me extremely rarely. And today I’m finally reviewing it - eye cream La Roche-Posay Redermic C Eyes, plus I’ll compare it with retinol, plus I’ll express my opinion about the misconceptions about this cream that I often see on the Internet. Oh, sorry, there’s a lot of text under the cut, but a lot of questions have been asked about this tool, I’ll try to answer them all at once.

I’m hiding a lot of information in the spoiler - here is my opinion about two very common misconceptions about this cream and about the cream with retinol (Redermic C — with vitamin C and Redermic R - with retinol), about their differences, plus my opinion about the “chemical/non-chemical” nature of this cream and the composition/effectiveness in general.

Misconception 1 — I’ve often seen the following statement: “Redermic C will be weak against wrinkles, it’s just vitamin C, so I’ll buy Redermic R, since retinol is a stronger age-related component.”

What do I think about it: in fact, the compositions of both creams are active and both will work well in terms of anti-aging - the “Laroshposeevites” managed to “push” into the Redermic C Eyes cream big a dose of vitamin C (here it is 5%), while it is in such a form and surrounded by such components that it is suitable even for sensitive eyelids, although sometimes there is a reaction to a high dose of vitamin C in the form of redness. They immediately did a good job on him, he doesn’t give any negative feedback. So: vitamin C (especially such an active one) stimulates the production of collagen, which makes the skin elastic, more taut and full from the inside. Plus, hyaluronic acid is added here (0.1% and it is fragmented, that is, with a low molecular weight, it should penetrate a little deeper than usual and work more efficiently), it also “fills” the skin from the inside and moisturizes; and mannose is a monosaccharide that helps retain moisture and therefore maintain elasticity.

And in cream with retinol (Redermic R) contains 0.01% retinol, and again: in such a form and with such components that it does not irritate the skin of the eyelids and eyes, although retinol products often suffer from this. But these are the kind of specialists in this brand, yes: they come up with something that you can’t believe, they combine the incongruous, and then they patent their inventions, which is logical. What do we have here: they combined retinol with adenosine, and the latter prevents the irritation that retinol can cause, plus enhances its effect, since adenosine affects the production of collagen and elastin. Retinol renews the skin, affects cell division and growth, and prevents the destruction of collagen and elastin. Plus there is 0.2% caffeine, which improves microcirculation and reduces dark circles, as well as relieves fatigue and prevents swelling.

In general, both creams are anti-aging, and it cannot be said that one of them is weaker and the second is stronger, the manufacturer advises the wisest (this also benefits him, but what manufacturer does not strive for profit? This is normal): you can simply combine these two creams, using vitamin C cream in the morning and retinol in the evening will be the best option.
And to put it briefly, a cream with vitamin C “fills” the skin from the inside, and thereby smooths out wrinkles and increases elasticity, and a cream with retinol smoothes out expression lines and removes dark circles. Both stimulate collagen and elastin production.

By the way, in the comments they wrote that the cream with retinol (I haven’t tried it yet) is light and almost watery, and the cream with vitamin C, which I just had, is denser and more nourishing. So I compared their compositions and yes, retinol cream has a lighter and non-nutritive composition, so for dry skin it may not be enough, but it’s not a problem to combine it with a rich eye cream, which are a dime a dozen. But with vitamin C it is just nourishing and it is preferable for dry skin, although both of them are universal.

Misconception 2 — several times I came across something like this statement about this cream: “it is written that the cream is paraben-free, although in fact it consists of only chymosin.”

What do I think about it - It’s stupid to expect naturalness or, even more so, organicity from a pharmacy brand. This particular series is valuable not for this, but for the unique combination of active ingredients that I wrote about above, which will actually produce results, and not just nutrition/moisturization.
But I can’t help but note that there are no components here that I usually write about: “I try to avoid these,” that is, there are no overtly harmful components here (and generally harmful! You know, if you want, you can find harm in carrots too ).
This product (with vitamin C) has a very comfortable base, it provides nutrition, plus a velvety/silky texture, plus the active ingredients in it are very “pleasant” - glycerin, silicone, shea butter and meadowfoam oil. If someone thinks that glycerin is evil, then you don’t have to read the text further. Glycerin is evil if you apply it in its pure form and try to enjoy life. And in such a mess he does nothing wrong. The same goes for dimethicone. The same goes for shea butter - no, it won’t clog your pores, at least if you don’t apply the cream to half your face and your skin is oily. Further on the list, nothing should confuse you either - all these components serve as a good base for the active components that I wrote about above to be well received by the skin, and the base provides enough nutrition. In general, if the words are unfamiliar, this does not mean that this is “a terrible chymosin from which we will all die.”
But in a cream with retinol, the base is more polymeric, rather than densely oily, so it is lighter, and it will contribute to better perception of the active components by the skin. Glycols can be the culprit of allergies, but, but, but. It’s unlikely here - nevertheless, at the moment there is data on the safe percentage of these components, and a brand like La Roche-Posay is unlikely to exceed this percentage. And glycols definitely do not “disturb the functioning of internal organs” - I read this phrase the other day in one of the blogs and my eyes widened: how in the right mind can one write such a thing? No, well, they can violate, of course, but only if you drink them in their pure form in mugs.

It has an ideal, very comfortable consistency - it is light, but at the same time dense, almost greasy, but still not so, it spreads easily and is absorbed just as quickly on my eyelids that are prone to dryness. At the same time, it does not tighten the skin, but provides complete care even in the cold season. It may turn a little yellow in the tube at the tip of the thin spout - vitamin C oxidizes when it comes into contact with oxygen, so when squeezing out the cream should be closed as soon as possible. Of course, there is no aroma here at all.

Effect: From the very first use, I was pleased that the cream provides absolutely everything that a good eyelid cream should provide - it is ideal under makeup, as it does not leave a greasy feeling and does not roll into a film; it nourishes and moisturizes very well; The skin with it is elastic and pleasant to the touch.
After about a month and a half, I noticed that it clearly reduced expression wrinkles (I applied the cream in the morning and evening) - they did not disappear completely, but became thinner and less noticeable, it seemed that they were lifted from the inside and the skin was filled with something elastic, so that she began to look more youthful. The skin on the upper and lower eyelids is dense and smooth in appearance, expression lines have become very thin, and after smiling they quickly straighten out - that’s what I got from this cream.

In general, I was happy to report these results on Instagram, and I already mentioned it here - the anti-aging effect of this cream is really visible and it is much stronger than many other creams with an anti-aging effect. In general, in recent years this cream and Shiseido eye cream have become the most effective for me in caring for the skin of the eyelids, so I will compare them: Shiseido is denser and more oily, so if the skin of the eyelids is very dry, then it will be better, but LRP will also suit dry skin. Shiseido is better at tightening/strengthening the upper eyelid, but it has virtually no effect on expression lines, LRP is better at smoothing out expression lines, but in general, their final effect is very similar - increasing skin density and smoothing.
