Nasomental reflex

The Nasomental reflex is one of the main postural reflexes that allows you to maintain balance and control your body posture during movements and positions. In this article we will look at the mechanism of occurrence and function of this reflex.

The reflex occurs when receptors in the nasopharynx are stimulated. It is important to understand that the receptors in the nose are pressure sensitive and are responsible for the ability to keep the body balanced during movement.

NOSOPINAL REFLEX

Nasochin reflex - (syn.: Flatau reflex) a complex protective reflex, consisting of mechanical protection of the upper respiratory tract area by bringing together and fixing the chin and the lower end of the nose together with the vomer with the teeth and mandibular muscles at the moment of hitting the head against any object or tense balance of the body in the vertical plane.

G. Flaut (Сhiara - Maria Flaut, 1926) was the first to describe the reflex mechanism of this reflex. They monitored the breathing of a six-month-old baby with a congenital cleft.
