The zygomatic reflex or Zehneymastest (German: Zehneymastest) is a traditional biological test that can be used to identify several damages: the sacral and spinal centers, which carry out the outflow of cerebrospinal fluid from the subarachnoid space into the spinal bursa and, accordingly, all violations of the location of the brain inside the skull. Also, the diagnosis is designed to identify damage to the aneurysm. The sternocleidomastoid muscle, which is also the center of the brachial plexus, is irritated, and then the trapezius muscle is palpated.
Normally, the reflex is clearly positive: when pressing on the lateral part of the neck of the lower jaw (near the earlobe), contraction and tension of the sternoclavicular muscle and even slight tension of the vocal cords occur, and due to this, an attempt is made to wrinkle the forehead, the patient experiences a double grimace. A cough may also occur. And if the reflex is negative, then this may indicate a disorder of the nervous system.
