**Reticulocytes** are most abundant in human blood; cats and dogs have significantly fewer. Typically, the content of reticulocytes is less than 2-3% of the total number of blood cells in healthy people; it can increase only during the healing period after injuries or tissue burns. In animals, reticulosis occurs during periods of body recovery and heavy blood loss.
