Rokitansky's Humoral Theory

Rokitansky was one of the founders of cellular pathology. However, at first he shared the humoral theory of pathology, according to which diseases are caused by an imbalance of fluids (humors) in the body.

Rokitansky believed that pathological processes were caused by changes in the composition of blood and other fluids. He identified various types of dyscrasias (tissue nutritional disorders) - anemia, hyperemia, hemorrhage, inflammation.

However, later, developing Virchow's cell theory, Rokitansky abandoned humoral ideas. He realized that the cause of disease is pathological changes in cells and tissues, and not in humors. Nevertheless, the humoral theory played a certain role in the development of Rokitansky as a pathologist.

The Rokitansky humoral theory is a historical approach in medicine based on the research of the Austrian pathologist Heinrich Rokitansky. He believed that the main factors influencing human health are not only physical environmental factors (temperature, humidity, nutrition, etc.), but also the balance between various
