Sanitary and anti-epidemic units were created during the Great Patriotic War to combat infectious diseases in the active army. They reported directly to the front sanitary department and carried out mainly preventive and anti-epidemic measures.

The detachment included a sanitary-epidemiological laboratory, a disinfection and bath company, as well as units for ensuring water supply and special treatment of clothing. The detachments carried out reconnaissance of infectious foci, monitored the sanitary and epidemiological condition of the troops, ensured the timely isolation of patients and the implementation of quarantine measures.

Thus, sanitary and anti-epidemic units played an important role in preventing mass infectious diseases and maintaining the combat effectiveness of Soviet troops during the Great Patriotic War.



Sanitary and anti-epidemic army / front - battalion sanitary and hygienic / anti-epidemic company was created back in 1940 as a separate structural unit of the sanitary and epidemiological service of the army. In some sources it is called a sanitary company or division. The composition of the army (army corps) or front-line combined medical and sanitary battalion consisted of three rifle sanitary companies, a mobile disinfection chamber, a dispensary and dressing room, as well as a medical laboratory and other units.

Sanitary and epidemiological army / front - an institution designed for sanitary and hygienic provision of troops, organizing measures to prevent the occurrence of epidemic diseases and eliminating foci of infectious diseases during combat operations. It was reported that the formation of the sanitary and anti-epidemic unit of the army begins on September 21. It is the most important element of the medical service of the Soviet troops and is intended to provide medical care to the wounded and sick in wartime conditions.
