Schizontocide

Schizontocides are a group of drugs used to treat malaria. They act on the parasites that cause this disease.

The schizont is the developmental stage of the parasite that can be seen in the blood after a mosquito bite. These protozoa are spike- or spindle-shaped and divide inside red blood cells. Approximately 48 hours after infection, parasite embryos - schizonts - are formed in the blood cells. It is at this stage that parasites are most dangerous and can potentially lead to disease.

It is known that today there are more than a hundred different species of malaria mosquitoes and about the same number of varieties of schizonts. Shizon
