Scrofulous folliculitis

Scrofulous folliculitis is a form of cutaneous tuberculosis, which is characterized by the appearance of bright red nodules and tubercles on the skin with a golden yellow tint. These rashes resemble lichen, hence the name "lichenoid".

Scrofulous folliculitis most often affects exposed skin areas - the face, neck, and forearms. The disease is chronic, with periods of exacerbations and remissions. The cause is the penetration of Mycobacterium tuberculosis into the skin.

For diagnosis, analysis of rashes and histological examination of skin samples are carried out. Treatment includes anti-tuberculosis drugs that suppress the proliferation of mycobacteria. Topical glucocorticosteroids are also prescribed to reduce inflammation.

With timely treatment, the prognosis is favorable. However, the disease can become chronic with periodic relapses. Regular monitoring by a dermatologist and adherence to treatment recommendations are important.
